Acne Prevention Tips
The best thing you can do in the fight against acne is to try everything you can do to prevent it and to keep it from spreading. Many of the things you should do are common sense applications of hygiene and face care. But there are some things that could be done that you may not think of. Since acne is caused when your face has too much oil and dead skin, which then clogs the pores, you should wash your face twice daily with a good soap. Some people suggest using a sulfur-based soap. Do not scrub your face that will only irritate your skin. Always wash gently and do not wash your face too often.
If you are going to use a moisturizer on your face, make sure it does not have an oil base. This is also something that should be considered by women who are going to wear make-up. What ever is going on a woman's face should not have an oil base. A make-up with a water base is much better. Also, avoid wearing make-up as much as you can. But if you must wear it, make sure that you remove it before going to bed each night. Never sleep in your make-up.
Long hair can be a problem during an acne outbreak. A person's hair contains a lot of oils. It also catches a lot of dust and dirt. Then the hair rubs against the face depositing this dirt and oil on the skin. Some doctors will suggest keeping your hair short to prevent this ongoing problem. Others will say that if you choose to keep your hair long tie it back as often as you can to prevent this ongoing transfer of oils from happening.
If an acne outbreak is beginning avoid the sun's rays. They can be very hard on the skin and even make the acne worse. As well, do not use sunscreens that have an oil base.
Some health care providers, and some friends, will advise you that certain supplements will help prevent acne. One that is frequently suggested is taking Vitamin A. It is known to prevent acne and improve a person's skin. It also goes a long way to diminish the production of sebum. Sebum is another name for the oils that are the main culprit in causing acne. Others will advise the use of a chromium supplement, or taking a daily complement of zinc.
Don't wear tight clothes. These make you sweat and if you are someone who gets acne on your back the sweating will increase the chances of an outbreak. Change your sheets, and especially your pillowcase, regularly. If you are in the middle of an outbreak change your pillowcase every few days so you are not lying in the oils that are rubbing off of your face.
You may not be able to completely prevent it but if you follow some of these tips you'll have a good chance of keeping your acne under control.
